Choose the season according to the tree
Many structural and maintenance pruning jobs are best carried out during the cooler months or toward the end of winter. Heavy pruning during intense summer heat can expose and weaken a tree.
Dry, broken or dangerous branches may need earlier attention. Fruit trees, ornamental trees and palms should not all be treated in the same way.
Winter
Often suitable for structural, cleaning and formative pruning.
Spring
Light corrections may be possible, but active growth should be respected.
Summer
Usually limited to dry branches, hazards and careful light work.
